Layman “Buzz” Allen, a longtime teacher of the TM technique, discusses his family’s educational legacy through the Accelerated Learning Program, founded in 1998 by his father, Layman E. Allen. The program promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in education. Mr. Allen recounts his father’s pioneering work in developing educational games, such as WFF ‘N PROOF, EQUATIONS, and ON-SETS, which were implemented in inner-city schools, improving math achievement and reducing absenteeism.
Mr. Allen also discusses his own work teaching courses in Maharishi International University’s (MIU) Continuing Education program and co-directing the Maharishi Global Archives housed in the MIU library.

As Director of the Accelerated Learning Foundation (since 1998) and President of WFF ‘N PROOF Learning Games Associates (since 1980), he has been a significant force in instructional gaming and accelerated learning for more than five decades.

After learning the TM technique at 16 and becoming a TM Teacher in 1971, Mr. Allen graduated magna cum laude with a BA in geological science from Princeton University in 1975. He has served as an instructor, course coordinator, and personnel director at Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, and Cobb Mountain Academy in California.
Mr. Allen has co-authored several influential educational programs and software systems, including Online EQUATIONS (2012), Introduction to EQUATIONS (1986), and the DIG Math (Diagnostic Instructional Gaming) Program (1986). His work blends intellectual rigor with creativity and playfulness—demonstrating that learning can be both joyful and transformative.
