For more than 50 years, Dr. Jamie Grant has studied Consciousness-Based® solutions in the fields of education and human development. His work has taken him from Harvard to China, and from Maharishi International University (MIU) to the David Lynch Foundation. He also helped develop and implement research-based educational programs, including the Quiet Time program, which brings the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique and stress reduction into schools to improve student well-being and learning. Dr. Grant reflects on the lessons he has learned from a lifetime devoted to unlocking human potential through education.
James Grant, EdD, is the director of the Transcendental Meditation program for Northern Virginia, as well as national director of Stress-Free Schools, an organization that brings the TM technique to schools and colleges nationwide. He returned to Virginia ten years ago after three years as National Director of Programs for the David Lynch Foundation in New York, which provides TM scholarships for at-risk populations. Prior to this, he was Director of Research and Programs with the Center for Wellness and Achievement in Education, a not-for-profit he co-founded in San Francisco to bring the TM technique to at-risk student populations.

Dr. Grant holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in education from Harvard University. He was a Fulbright lecturer in China for 18 months in the 1980s and a professor of education and a dean at MIU for 16 years. He has been a Certified TM Teacher since 1974.
