Native American Certified TM Teacher Maggie Waukon-Smith talks about the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska’s experiences when the TM technique was introduced. She discusses changes in herself, the elders who participated in diabetes research, and the students in the Quiet Time program at Winnebago High School. These changes inspired her to become a TM teacher and have led her to a beautiful vision of hope, strength, and connection, beginning with bringing TM to indigenous populations across the nation.
Ms. Waukon-Smith is an enrolled member of the Winnebago Ho-Chunk Tribe of Nebraska. Her Ho-Chunk name is Wa-who-pi-inga meaning “Good Snow Woman.” She belongs to the Thunderbird clan and comes from a hereditary line of chiefs on her father’s side.
