Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, and Mario Orsatti, co-host of TM Talks, comment on a recorded interview with two of the most creative people of their generation: Martin Scorsese and Ray Dalio. They discuss how the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique has influenced their creativity and benefited their professional and private lives. Mr. Roth conducted this interview several years ago.
Martin Scorsese is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor, who has emerged as one of the major figures of the New Hollywood era. He is the recipient of many major accolades, including an Academy Award, four British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, three Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Directors Guild of America Awards.
Mr. Scorsese received the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award in 1997, the Film Society of Lincoln Center tribute in 1998, the Kennedy Center Honor in 2007, the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2010, and the BAFTA Fellowship in 2012. Five of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Ray Dalio has been a global macro investor for more than 50 years. He founded Bridgewater Associates out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City and ran it for most of its 47 years, building it into the largest hedge fund in the world and the fifth most important private company in the United States, according to Fortune magazine.
Mr. Dalio’s investment innovations have changed the way global institutions approach investing, and he has received several lifetime achievement awards. Because of his impact on global macroeconomic policies, TIME magazine has called him one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World.” Mr. Dalio is also the #1 New York Times best-selling author of Principles: Life and Work, as well as Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail, and Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises.
Mr. Roth and Mr. Orsatti, Senior Teacher of the David Lynch Foundation Center for Health and Wellness, presented and discussed highlights from this earlier taped interview. This TM Talks episode aired on April 16, 2023.
