Breathe Again with TM® is a Maharishi Foundation pilot program, currently available in Los Angeles County, to make the Transcendental Meditation technique more accessible to African American residents.
The program was created by TM Meditators and Certified Teachers who, through their own direct experience, knew the benefits the technique could bring to help address racial reckoning, generational trauma, and widespread health disparities that burden Black communities. The goal of this initiative is to teach the TM technique to one million Black Americans.

Sibongile Bradley West, a Certified TM Teacher, was intrigued by the idea of enlightenment at an early age and learned the TM technique at 16. She became a TM teacher when she was 18 and was one of the first students at Maharishi International University, at its original campus in Goleta, California, then in Fairfield, Iowa, when the University relocated there.
Later, she was the TM Center Director in the Northeast San Fernando Valley in California and also taught in Southwest Los Angeles, at TMC Centers under the guidance of TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, to bring the practice to Black communities.
Ms. West also designed and taught curricula explaining TM practice for the University of Northern Iowa’s Upward Bound Program, and contributed to several research studies at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and the University of California at Irvine.
She currently teaches the TM technique in Los Angeles County and is the Director and Chair of the Breathe Again with TM initiative. She is also a strategic communications professional and Vice President of Young Communications Group, Inc.
Mario Orsatti, the host of TM Talks and Senior Teacher of the Center for Health and Wellness at the David Lynch Foundation, interviewed Ms. West on July 25, 2021.
