In this talk, TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi describes the unified basis of life as expressed in the world around us and as experienced in the simplest state of human awareness during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique. Maharishi explains the mechanics of eliminating stress and its role in the development of our full potential. This video is from a talk titled “A Promise for the Family of Man,” which Maharishi gave at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts in Houston, Texas, on October 20, 1972.
Lea Cho, Director of Programs and Special Projects at the David Lynch Foundation (DLF), joins TM Talks host Mario Orsatti, Senior Teacher of the DLF Center for Health and Wellness, to discuss this talk.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi describes the unified basis of life as expressed in the world around us and as experienced in the simplest state of human awareness during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique.
Maharishi brought the Transcendental Meditation program from India to the West in 1959. Since then, more than 10 million people of all ages, cultures, and religions have learned the TM technique. In 1963, Maharishi published his seminal book, Science of Being and Art of Living, which was translated into 15 languages. His second book, published in 1967, was Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary. He wrote many more books and circled the world numerous times, speaking with world leaders and lecturing widely.
Maharishi also inspired a scientific quest for enlightenment. Over 700 published studies on the TM technique have demonstrated its far-reaching benefits—better health and longer life, greater intelligence and creativity, more fulfilling relationships and work success, reduced societal stress, and effortless creation of peace.
Ms. Cho is an accomplished musician and pianist. At age 11, she debuted at Carnegie Hall and has since performed worldwide, including at the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, and the Museo MARCO in Spain. She has also released five albums of original music on international record labels and toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, the UK, South America, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
After learning the TM technique in 2014 and experiencing profound benefits in her personal and professional life, Ms. Cho was inspired to become a Certified TM Teacher. Since then she has had the honor of teaching the technique to corporate leaders, military personnel, government workers, and survivors of trauma, through the David Lynch Foundation.
This TM Talks first aired on January 9, 2022, and was rebroadcast on March 12, 2023.
