With nearly half of Americans suffering from some form of heart disease (TIME, Jan. 31, 2019), the pioneering research on heart health and risk factors by Robert H. Schneider, M.D., F.A.C.C., funded by the National Institutes of Health, offers a compelling alternative.
Dr. Schneider is a physician, scientist, educator, and one of the world’s leading authorities on scientific, natural approaches for heart disease, high blood pressure, stress, and other cardiovascular risk factors. Over the past 30 years, he has directed or co-directed more than $25 million in grant support from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and other government agencies for clinical research on mind-body medicine, aging, and cardiovascular disease. The results of these studies have been published in 150 peer-reviewed articles, including those published by the American Heart Association and American Medical Association.
Dr. Schneider summarizes his research in this video
Here’s a short glossary of several medical abbreviations in Dr. Schneider’s talk and charts:
BP: blood pressure
CHD: coronary heart disease
CVD: cardiovascular disease
PMR: progressive muscle relaxation
ST/ST-T Onset: an indicator of reduced blood flow to the heart

Dr. Robert H. Schneider does an excellent job presenting and explaining the scientific data demonstrating the positive effects of Transcendental Meditation on lowering blood pressure. In addition, he presents the results of experiments showing psychosocial benefits and positive effects on the epigenome of TM. This was an excellent, informative video presentation! Thanks
These well controlled studies are nothing short of miraculous. Hopefully, the general population will begin using this powerful tool BEFORE starting pharmaceuticals.
Good morning. I just started TM because my daughter recommended it to me to reduce my blood pressure. I was very skeptical that TM would work. I am on four blood pressure medications and my pressure was in the 179/68 range. I started TM and now my blood pressure on most days is in the 130’s over 60’s. My doctor was stunned when I went to see him. I am still monitoring my pressure every day and when I see him again in March we will begin a medicine reduction if my pressure stays in the 130’s or better. I should mention that I am also a diabetic , over weight and 70 years old. I am now a believer. The overall effects of TM has been very dramatic for even this short time doing TM.
Thank you, Dorothy. I’m so glad that your health is improving and that you’re consulting with your doctor and following his advice while simultaneously enjoying your TM practice! All best wishes for continuing health and well-being.
Thanks for the reviews, etc.
