What happens when the Transcendental Meditation® (TM) technique is added to the curriculum of a struggling school? NBC Nightly News wanted to find out. Cynthia McFadden investigated several schools in the San Francisco area where over 1,800 students, faculty, and administrators have been taught TM as part of the David Lynch Foundation’s Quiet Time program. She was amazed at her findings.

For two 15-minute periods, at the start and at the end of the day, students have the chance to practice TM in the classroom. After four years, even the skeptics were on board with this innovative approach to improving student success. There was a 79 percent decrease in suspensions, a 98.3 percent increase in attendance, and “a move from the bottom of the academic ladder to the upper and middle rungs.”

The educators are obviously happy with this new tool for effectively coping with the violence, stress, and trauma that pervades many public schools.
