Alan Phillips learned the TM technique at the age of 16. He continued to enrich his experience of the growth of consciousness by attending courses and working internationally with the TM organization from 1974 to 1981. He reflects on the inspiration that led him to found the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts) and the remarkable support of nature that guided the school’s growth and evolution. Among his most rewarding achievements are securing early funding to provide TM scholarships for students and, in 2022, providing full VanArts scholarships to 25 Ukrainian refugees.

Alan Phillips has been a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique since 1973. He received a marketing management diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1985 and graduated with a master’s in business administration from Maharishi International University in 1991. He is the founder and former CEO of VanArts, which offers world-class training in Animation, Game Art, VFX, Photography, Acting, and more. With a demonstrated history of success in the higher education industry, Mr. Phillips is skilled in entrepreneurship, coaching, strategic planning, and marketing strategy.
