Jim Davis is a highly accomplished entrepreneur, special events photographer, and founder of Chappell Studio, Marathon Foto, Grad Images, and Jim Davis Images. He traces his extensive career, from his first camera at age 16, to photographing frat parties in college, to founding Chappell Studio, to enjoying nature photography today.
He recalls some of his favorite moments and some of the famous people he has photographed professionally. He also talks about learning TM and how his practice gave him the energy to run a large-scale business and manage high-pressure events throughout the years.
Jim Davis began his professional career in 1966 as a freshman in college. With over six decades of experience, he has established himself as a leading figure in the photography industry, with a diverse portfolio that includes capturing celebrities, presidents, marathons, graduations, and the stunning beauty of nature.

Mr. Davis holds a bachelor’s in American studies and a master’s in education from the University of Kansas. He was the senior vice president of Chappell Studio for 33 years and senior vice president of Grad Images and Marathon Foto for 44 years before launching his successful venture, Jim Davis Images.
Throughout his career, he participated in numerous solo and group art exhibits, showcasing his exceptional work behind the lens. He continues to inspire others with his creative vision and dedication to the art of photography. In addition to his passion for photography, he plays a key role in the worldwide Transcendental Meditation organizations.
