Rhoda Orme-Johnson, Ph.D., chaired the Department of Literature and Languages at Maharishi International University (MIU) for more than 20 years. She is the c0-author of The Flow of Consciousness: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on Literature and Language (with Susan Anderson, Ph.D.) as well as several other books. Currently she is Professor Emerita of Literature at MIU.

Dr. Orme-Johnson talks about how the study and experience of poetry and literature promote transcending and a deeper appreciation of consciousness, language, and the world around us.

Dr. Orme-Johnson earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Maryland and her B.A. in mathematics and philosophy from Vassar College. After a stint as a computer programmer on the Apollo Project, she learned the Transcendental Meditation technique in 1972. She joined the MIU faculty in 1977.
