Leslee Goldstein, Ph.D., talks about her passion for working with impoverished women, particularly in developing countries. She discusses her research on mothers and daughters in Kampala, Uganda, and the wonderful changes that occurred when they learned the Transcendental Meditation technique.
Dr. Goldstein’s study “Self-Esteem, Self-Efficacy, and Gratitude for Increasing Empowerment of Female Youth in Uganda” was published on July 9, 2024. Further work is in press, looking at the impact of the TM technique on reducing psychological distress and improving resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Goldstein is an adjunct professor and research scholar at Maharishi International University, in Fairfield, Iowa, working with the Center for Social and Emotional Health and Consciousness. She is also a researcher and consultant for African Women and Girls Organization (AWAGO), the TM Women’s organization in Uganda.
Dr. Goldstein’s Ph.D. in Maharishi Vedic ScienceSM involved on-site research with mothers living in Ugandan city slums, which was published in 2018 in Health Care for Women International. She subsequently served as Director of Charitable Programs for Women for the Rona and Jeffrey Abramson Foundation. Her inspiring work has made it possible for several thousand women and children to learn the TM technique, transforming their lives.
