We are all aware of how Transcendental Meditation practice can calm the mind and body. But is it really possible that large groups meditating at the same time or in the same general location can create enough calm to reduce crime and violence in the area?
David Orme-Johnson, Ph.D., one of the world’s most published researchers on the science of meditation, explores the latest, cutting-edge research on collective consciousness, as well as practical steps every individual can take to help eliminate negative tendencies in society and promote positive trends in the world.
In this presentation Dr. Orme-Johnson explains how researchers evaluated 50 different demonstrations of this large group meditation effect. This outcome is referred to as the Maharishi Effect, based on the predictions of TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The researchers’ work resulted in a series of studies published in peer-reviewed journals, publications, and books documenting this effect.
Dr. Orme-Johnson is a distinguished professor emeritus of psychology at Maharishi International University (MIU). He is the author of over 100 papers investigating the effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique. He received a B.A. in psychology from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology, with a second speciality in quantitative methods, from the University of Maryland.
This presentation was hosted by MIU for the National Coherence Campaign (more below) on October 31, 2020.
