Brenda Boozer spent more than a decade as a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She has also performed leading mezzo-soprano roles with many of the world’s most prestigious opera companies, including the Paris Opera; Covent Garden; Lyric Opera of Chicago; San Francisco Opera; Frankfurt Opera; Netherlands Opera; Teatro de Santiago, Chile; Teatro Comunale in Florence, Italy; Houston Grand Opera; and Santa Fe Opera.
An acclaimed concert singer, she has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony, and Saint Louis Symphony, and has participated in numerous festivals, including Edinburgh, Spoleto, Lincoln Center’s “Mostly Mozart,” Wolf Trap, and the Hollywood Bowl.
Ms. Boozer has been equally at home in musical theater. She studied at the Actor’s Studio in New York with acclaimed director and acting teacher Herbert Berghof. She made her Broadway debut in Coco with Katherine Hepburn, with whom she coached for six months. Her theatrical roles have included Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Aldonza in Man of La Mancha.
Ms. Boozer has been a Transcendental Meditation practitioner since 1991. She talks about her career as an opera soloist, actor, voice coach, and teacher, and explains the role of daily TM practice in her life and the importance of understanding the full potential of consciousness.
