Jane Roman Pitt is an award-winning singer-songwriter, who has recorded and co-produced six albums, working with some of the best folk, jazz, and country musicians in San Francisco, Detroit, and Nashville. As a composer, her choral music has been performed throughout the country.
When Pitt became a grandmother, she began to study the effects of soothing music, especially lullabies, for both babies and adults. The results were her award-winning albums Midnight Lullaby and Road to Dreamland, with cover songs written by well-known songwriters, including Bob Dylan, the Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks), Neil Young, Johnny Mercer, and George Gershwin.
Originally from the Motor City, Pitt now lives in the lively musical atmosphere of beautiful Asheville, North Carolina.
Pitt discusses music’s ability not only to stimulate us, but also to soothe and calm us in times of stress. She also talks about what it’s like to write and record music that creates a positive and calming influence, ranging from songs about meditation and consciousness, to traditional and contemporary lullabies for both babies and their grown-up family members.
Mario Orsatti, the host of TM Talks and Executive Director of the Center for Health and Wellness, a division of the David Lynch Foundation, interviewed Pitt on October 4, 2020.
