David Lynch is an American filmmaker, painter, photographer, musician, singer, sound designer, actor, and philanthropist. He is best known for writing and directing films such as The Elephant ManWild at HeartBlue VelvetThe Straight Story, and Mulholland Drive, which are often regarded by critics as among the best films of their respective decades. Lynch has also received awards for his ground-breaking television series, Twin Peaks.

Lynch’s work has received many awards. In 2019 the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented him with the Academy’s “Honorary Award.” This special award celebrates extraordinary achievements by a leader in motion pictures. Past recipients have included Charlie Chaplin, Cecil B. DeMille, Elia Kazan, Sidney Lumet, Akira Kurosawa, Lina Wertmüller, Jean-Luc Godard, and Federico Fellini.

In this interview Lynch discusses how the artist’s state of consciousness plays a role in the creative process and how his own practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique has influenced his work as a film director and artist. As part of the webinar, viewers were able to submit questions.
